"For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one." 1 John 5:7(KJV)
Madalas nating marinig sa mga KJV-Onlyist na ang kanilang bersyon ay ang tanging "inspired, preserved, and perfect" translation. Pero pagdating sa 1 John 5:7, may isang malaking "elephant in the room": ang Comma Johanneum. Pag-usapan natin ito nang diretsahan para ma-test ang claim na ito base sa historical facts.
Q: Ano ba talaga ang "Comma Johanneum" at bakit ito issue?
A: Ang Comma Johanneum ay tumutukoy sa extra phrase sa 1 John 5:7-8 na mababasa sa KJV: "…in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one."
Ang problema? Ang phrase na ito ay wala sa pinakamatatandang Greek manuscripts (tulad ng Codex Sinaiticus, Vaticanus, at Alexandrinus). Hindi rin ito binanggit ng mga early Greek Church Fathers sa kanilang mga depensa tungkol sa Trinity. Q: Ano ang kinalaman ng Roman Catholic Council of Trent dito?
A: Ang Council of Trent (1546) ang nag-seal ng deal. Idineklara ng Catholic Church na ang Latin Vulgate ang "authentic" Bible. Dahil kasama ang Comma sa Vulgate, naging "dogma" na ito.
Ito ang "double blow" sa KJV-Only claim:
1) Catholic Authority: Ang KJV-Onlyists ay madalas na ayaw sa Catholic Church, pero ang kanilang paboritong "proof text" para sa Trinity ay na-canonize ng Council of Trent.

Q: So, kailangan ba nating itakwil ang Trinity dahil dito?
A: Hindi. Huwag malito. Ang doktrina ng Trinity ay matibay kahit wala ang Comma Johanneum. Ang Trinity ay malinaw na itinuturo sa maraming verses sa New Testament (Matthew 28:19; John 1:1; 2 Corinthians 13:14).
Ang problema ay hindi ang doktrina, kundi ang biblical method ng KJV-Onlyists. Ginagamit nila ang isang interpolated text (na gawa ng tao, hindi ng mga apostol) para suportahan ang doktrina.

There cannot be better service done to the truth than to purge it of things spurious: & therefore … I am confident I shall not offend you by telling you my mind plainly: especially since ’tis no article of faith, no point of discipline, nothing but a criticism concerning a text of scripture … The history of the corruption, in short, is this. First, some of the Latines interpreted the spirit water & blood of the Father, Son & Holy Ghost to prove them one. Then Jerome, for the same end, inserted the Trinity in express words into his Version … And when printing came it crept out of the Latin into the printed Greek against the authority of all the Greek MSS & ancient Versions.” (Newton Project, Ms. 361(4), ff. 1–41, pp. 1–4)
