Imagine this: Sunday morning, may nag-doorbell sa gate ninyo. In fact, the first creation lang daw Siya.
“Jehovah produced me as the beginning of his way, the earliest of his achievements of long ago.” (New World Translation (2013)
Nakakalito, 'di ba?This verse is actually one of the most controversial passages in the Old Testament. Back in the 4th century, pinagtalunan na ito ng mga Arians (na may parehong paniniwala sa mga Jehovah's Witnesses ngayon) at ng mga Trinitarians tulad ni Athanasius.
Let’s break this down into a simple Q&A so you can confidently defend your faith!
Q1: Ano ba talaga ang sinasabi sa Proverbs 8:22? Nilalang ba si Jesus?
Depende sa translation na babasahin mo, the verse can look a bit different. Tingnan natin itong apat:
"The LORD possessed me at the beginning of His way..." (NKJV)
"The LORD acquired me at the beginning of his creation..." (CSB)
"The LORD begot me, the beginning of his works..." (NABRE)
"The LORD created me at the beginning of his work..." (NRSV)
Sa Hebrew, madalas itong ginagamit to mean "to buy" or "to acquire" (ganyan ang gamit niya sa 13 other instances sa Book of Proverbs).
"Love and faithfulness meet together; Righteousness and peace kiss each other." Psalms 85:10(NIV)
"Love and faithfulness meet together; Righteousness and peace kiss each other." Psalms 85:10(NIV)
Kahit nga ang Watchtower (ang nagpa-publish ng materials ng JW) ay inamin ito sa isa nilang article tungkol sa Proverbs 1:20 ("Wisdom cries aloud in the street"). Sabi nila mismo: "Wisdom cannot really rule, flee, or cry out. But speaking as if they did, the Bible paints vivid mental pictures..."
Exactly!
Look at verse 12: "I, wisdom, dwell with prudence."
Ang point ni Solomon dito, which he repeats in Proverbs 3:19-20, is simply this: God created the world in a perfectly wise fashion.
Definitely! Under the New Covenant, mas malinaw na ang revelation natin. While it’s dangerous to treat OT poetry as a wooden, literal proof-text to define Jesus' origins, we completely agree na si Jesus ang ultimate fulfillment at embodiment ng karunungan ng Diyos.
Sabi ni Apostle Paul, in Christ "are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge" (Colossians 2:3).
Real Talk Reflection
"But to those whom God has called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God." 1 Corinthians 1:24(NIV)
Pero the Bible is a masterpiece. Kapag binasa natin ito nang tama, honoring its literary genres like poetry, makikita natin ang ganda ng plano ni God.
Call to Action: Don't let tricky arguments shake your faith! Ngayong linggo, I challenge you to read Proverbs 8 completely, not as a theological textbook about the Trinity, but as a beautiful poem praising God's design. Kapag may lumapit sa'yo at ginamit ang verses na ito out of context, respectfully share what you've learned. Dig deep, study hard, and boldly declare that our Savior isn't just a created being; He is the eternal Lord, the very wisdom of God in the flesh!
