"Revelation 3:14: Paano Naging "Beginning of the creation of God" si Cristo?"

“And to the angel of the church in Laodicea write: ‘The words of the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of God’s creation." Revelation 3:14(ESV)

Kung nakaranas ka na na may kumatok sa gate ninyo mula sa Iglesia ni Cristo (INC) o mga local Jehovah's Witnesses para makipag-debate kung sino talaga si Jesus, malamang naibato na nila sa'yo ang verse na 'to. Gustung-gusto nilang gamitin ang Revelation 3:14 para sabihin, "Look, si Jesus ang beginning o pasimula ng creation ng Diyos, so ibig sabihin, nilikha lang din Siya!"

But wait lang, iyon nga ba talaga ang ibig sabihin ni Apostle John dito? Let’s dive deep sa Word at i-unpack natin 'to together!

Q: Doesn't "beginning of the creation" literally mean na si Jesus ang pinaka-unang ginawa ng Diyos?

A: Kung babasahin natin siya sa plain English o Tagalog lang, right on the surface, parang ganoon nga ang dating. But if we dig into the original Greek word na ginamit dito arche, it’s a whole different story! Kung titignan mo sa iba't ibang English Bibles, ang daming translations ng arche:

• "beginning" (ESV, KJV)
  
• "source" or "origin" (NASB, NRSV)
  
• "originator" (CSB, NET)
• "ruler" or "head" (NIV, BBE)

Linguistically, all of these are completely plausible. But contextually? Walang implication diyan na si Jesus ay isang created being. Fun fact nga, eh: Kahit ang mga Arians noong 4th century, na talagang hinalungkat ang buong Bible para maghanap ng proof texts na nilikha lang ang Anak, hindi man lang nila ginamit ang Revelation 3:14 as their proof text!

Q: So ano ba talaga ang exact meaning ng arche sa verse na 'to?

A: Bible scholars usually narrow it down to two main views:

1. Si Christ ang Originator o Source ng creation.
2. Si Christ ang Ruler o Head ng creation.

Both concepts highlight His divine authority, pero may tatlong matibay na reasons bakit "Ruler" or "Head" ang primary idea na gustong i-communicate ni John dito:

• Reason 1: Paul's letters next door. Whenever arche is used para sa isang person elsewhere sa New Testament, almost always ang meaning nito ay "ruler" o "authority" (gaya sa Romans 8:38 o Ephesians 6:12).

"For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers(arche), nor things present nor things to come, nor powers." Romans 8:38(ESV)

"For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities(arche), against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms." Ephesians 6:12(NIV)

In fact, tinawag din ni Apostle Paul si Jesus na arche sa Colossians 1:18!

"And he is the head of the body, the church. He is the beginning (arche), the firstborn from the dead, that in everything he might be preeminent." Colossians 1:18(ESV)

Remember, magkapitbahay lang ang mga churches sa Laodicea at Colossae sa Asia Minor, and they constantly exchanged letters. Super gets nila kung paano ginamit ni Paul ang arche: Jesus is the Supreme Ruler!

• Reason 2: Ang Revelation parallel. Tignan natin ang titles ni Jesus sa Revelation 1:5: "the faithful witness, the firstborn of the dead, and the ruler (archon) of the kings of the earth." Compare mo 'yan sa Revelation 3:14: "the faithful and true witness, the ruler (arche) of the creation of God." Solid ang parallel, 'di ba?
  
  
• Reason 3: Si God the Father mismo ginagamit 'yan! Ang tanging ibang beses na lumabas ang word na arche sa book of Revelation ay noong si God the Father mismo ang nagsasalita:
  
  "I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning (arche) and the end" (Rev. 21:6; 22:13).
  
  Obviously, hindi naman created si God the Father! Ang title na 'yan simply means na Siya ang sovereign ruler ng history from start to finish. And here, Jesus applies that exact same divine authority sa sarili Niya.
  
  

Q: Kung hindi Siya created being, bakit pa binanggit ang "the creation of God"?

A: Grabe, dito talaga sobrang ganda ng message, lalo na kapag tiningnan natin through the lens of New Covenant Theology! Ang Revelation 3:14 ay hindi lang nakatingin backward sa Genesis original creation; heavy ang pointing forward nito sa New Creation.

Here’s the deep biblical connection:

• Ang title na "the Amen" ay direct connection sa Isaiah 65:16, kung saan si Yahweh ay tinawag na "God of Amen" (ang Diyos ng katotohanan).

"So that he who blesses himself in the land shall bless himself by the God of truth, and he who takes an oath in the land shall swear by the God of truth; because the former troubles are forgotten and are hidden from my eyes." Isaiah 65:16(ESV)

• Anong promises ng faithful God na ito sa very next verse? "I will create new heavens and a new earth" (Isa. 65:17).

• And right before Revelation 3:14, pinangako ni Jesus sa mga victorious believers ang lugar sa "New Jerusalem" (Rev. 3:12).

Kaya noong tinawag si Jesus na arche ng creation ng Diyos, He is declaring Himself as the Head and Ruling Member of the New Creation! Na-earn Niya ang right na 'to through His redemptive work sa Kanyang kamatayan, resurrection, at current exaltation. Siya ang divine Son na nag-humble ng Kanyang sarili to become fully human, forever linking Himself sa atin to bring about ang ultimate restoration ng buong cosmos. Ang ating victorious King ay naghahari na right now, Unti-unting pinapasuko ang buong history sa ilalim ng Kanyang mga paa!

Q: Paano nito makakatulong sa ating everyday apologetics?

A: So paano natin 'to magagamit? Simple lang: It completely disarms the arguments ng mga skeptics, modern Unitarians, at mga local cults na nagtatangkang i-downgrade si Jesus doon sa "creation" side ng line.

Ang mga New Testament writers, from John to Paul hanggang sa author ng Hebrews, make it undeniably clear na nag-e-exist na si Jesus bago pa man ang creation (John 1:1-3, Col. 1:16-17). As the "Amen," Siya ang perfect, final, and eternal revelation ng Diyos. At dahil ang lahat ng bagay ay nilikha through Him and for Him, ang preincarnate Christ ay eternally kasama sa Creator side ng divide. He isn't a created being; Siya ang uncreated, eternal King na by grace ay pumasok sa Kanyang sariling creation para iligtas tayo!
